Metal Spinning
Metal spinning is a precision forming process that shapes flat metal discs into seamless, symmetrical parts — such as cones, domes, cylinders and custom profiles — by rotating the material against a forming tool at high speed. The result is a strong, lightweight component with no welds or seams, produced with minimal material waste.
At Pro-Spin, our metal spinning capabilities go further than most job shops in Canada: we spin parts up to 88 inches in diameter, a capacity few manufacturers can match. Backed by nearly 40 years of metal-forming expertise, our team works in aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper and brass to produce everything from one-off prototypes to full production runs for aerospace, lighting, HVAC, cookware and industrial equipment manufacturers across Canada, the United States and Europe.
Metal spinning (also called spin forming) uses a rotating mandrel and precision tooling to press flat metal blanks into round, symmetrical shapes without seams or welds. Because the metal is worked rather than cast or heavily machined, spun parts keep excellent structural integrity, consistent wall thickness and a smooth surface finish — while cutting material waste and lead time compared to other forming methods.
Materials and thickness capacity
- Aluminum: 0.032" – 0.250" (20ga – 3ga)
- Steel: 0.024" – 0.250" (24ga – 3ga)
- Stainless steel: 0.024" – 0.125" (24ga – 11ga)
- Copper: 0.027" – 0.060" (22ga – 16ga)
- Brass: 0.025" – 0.050" (22ga – 16ga)
Capacity
- Maximum diameter: up to 88"
Typical applications include lighting reflectors, cookware, tanks and pressure vessel components, HVAC parts, decorative architectural elements, and custom industrial components.
Our in-house R&D team can also support prototyping and process development for new part designs.
